Life during Lockdown

Life has changed or transformed drastically and unimaginably ever since the threat of coronavirus swept across the world. It has been almost a week since I last went out like before. Though I love being alone and away from people, this change is involuntary and unimaginable for me. I am just trying to be optimistic that by the time the threat of coronavirus subsides the nature would have healed from the wounds inflicted by humans. This change in power balance between species is quite heartening; however, it comes at a cost, loss of innumerable innocent lives. I reside in the Delhi, the capital of India, which recently suffered from communal riots over a government act that when passed can allegedly marginalize minority sections, especially Muslims. It is extremely painful to see my city and its people suffer due to life-changing events one after another. It is impossible for me to ignore the gory and frightening consequences of the current global events. However, during such strange and tough times, I have decided to follow certain steps that I always dreamt of, such as leading a minimalistic lifestyle, catching up on my reading list, sketching and writing regularly on my blog.

I am going to pick up one novel today and aim to finish by this weekend. I am trying to ignore as much as possible the distractions and hurdles coming in my and everyone’s lives. This is the apt time to live a monk life and practice the lifestyle for future. I have since childhood days been fascinated by the monk life, and during such strange and tough times, maybe it would be better to put my all energy in practicing the basic principles of monk life. My partner has inspired me to look into the importance of leading a simple and more eco-friendly life. One of my major achievements of the past few months has been that the usage of plastics and plastic stuff has dramatically reduced in our daily life due to our habit to carry bags and avoid packaged food items. I always aimed to lead an off-grid life and have already started practicing it. I do not own many gadgets that are dangerous to the environment such as air conditioners, washing machine, etc.

Both my partner and I believe in doing all our domestic chores by ourselves, without any assistance from domestic helper. The need of the hour is to practice such sustainable habits to save the environment. As we continue to live in the city, many people, both close and distant, fail to comprehend the importance of our lifestyle; since possession of possessions is a parameter to judge the success and richness of a person in most parts of India, many have also ridiculed us. However, we have received immense support and motivation from our art fraternity. We would not able to conserve the nature and ensure safe life to our future generation till the time we do not start practicing simplistic and minimalistic life.
